Article by Jaden Tripodi (2 min. 32 s) - 11/19/2020

The initial stereotype about Saudi Arabia is that its terrain is entirely dessert and sand, though that is not the case. Saudi Arabia is a huge country or kingdom, as it is referred to, with many advanced technologies. Saudi Arabia is home to more than 34 million people. The cultural dynamic in Saudi Arabia is about ninety percent Arab, and the most practiced religion is Muslim. The country of Saudi Arabia has almost two trillion dollars in growth domestic product and possesses about 22% of the world’s oil supply. - CNN

There are many stereotypes associated with every country. Like many other countries, the social stereotype for those that live in Saudi Arabia is that they lack a sense of humor. It seems to be a repetitive stereotype that residents in other countries than America, don’t have a sense of humor. Another stereotype that is not true is that Saudi Arabia is violent and acts with machine guns. My role in this group assignment is to clear up the different stereotypes associated with Saudi Arabia. I will cover the real terrain, lifestyle and facts about Saudi Arabia for those looking to travel there.

The terrain many think of associated with Saudi Arabia is difficult to comprehend. Saudi Arabia’s greatest wealth comes from their oil supply and production. In Saudi Arabia there is desert terrain but scattered throughout the deserts there are many huge, modern cities each populated by millions. Majority of those that are wealthy in Saudi Arabia, their money comes from oil production and ownership. For the rest of those other that are not the rich from oil, that live a lavish lifestyle in Saudi Arabia are usually politicians and ruling families. For the classes below the rich and wealthy in Saudi Arabia, they live outside the big cities and their daily life looks very different. Poverty does exist in Saudi Arabia despite the country’s great amount of wealth. The terrain inside the major cities of Saudi Arabia consist of extremely high skyscrapers and are constantly growing in size. The two largest cities in Saudi Arabia are Cairo and Riyadh. Both cities receive millions of tourists every year and are home to about fourteen million Saudi’s together.

The greatest attractions in Saudi Arabia are Masjid al-Haram, Kaaba, Al Masjid an Nabawi, and many other popular landmarks. Masjid al-Haram translates to the Great Mosque of Mecca – according to Wikipedia. The Masjid al-Haram is huge in size standing almost three hundred feet high making it the largest mosque in Islam and is believed to have been built in the fifteen-hundreds. Al Masjid an Nabawi is another famous mosque following Haram, being the second biggest mosque in Islam. In English Al Masjid an Nabawi is the Prophet’s Mosque, likely because it is the final resting place of Muhammad. Another attraction many go to see in Saudi Arabia is in the southern region of Asir – according to Bloomberg. In south Asir, there are huge, beautiful mountains covering the southern region where visitors hike and see historical villages throughout.
